About Me

I’m Chakib El Bassam, a 2nd-year BSc AI & Machine Learning student at the University of Limerick who turns messy problems into working systems across software + hardware. I prototype fast, document clearly, and ship reliable tools that real users can run.

Results: A lot of happy clients for example I built an in-house NFC points kiosk + portrait display for a casino, replacing a ~€2k vendor solution and cutting staff queries.

Focus:

• Computer-vision and perception (MediaPipe / OpenCV).

• Small web apps & APIs (Python + FastAPI/Flask, basic JS/HTML/CSS).

• Embedded/IoT work (ESP32/Arduino, NFC).

Projects (short list):

• MotionTuned — martial-arts technique Ai model + feedback UI (dataset curation, model training, evaluation pipeline).

• ESP32-CAM RC Car (team) — hand-gesture control + video/servo loop; wrote the Python control layer and helped tune reliability.

• “War Machine” — humanoid/mechatronics concept: CAD, kinematics, BOM, and prototype arm/frame in progress.

• Casino Points Kiosk — NFC reader + PC + portrait monitor; live leaderboard + “tap to check points.”

• Client Sites & Minis — lightweight sites, simple automations, basic SEO/analytics.

How I work: Test → measure → iterate; protect user data (GDPR basics); communicate clearly with non-technical teammates.

I build small, reliable tools for local businesses: lightweight websites, dashboards and automations. -- Typical stack: Python (FastAPI/Flask), HTML/CSS/JS, basic SQL, analytics/SEO, domains/SSL. Clear briefs, fast iterations, tidy handover docs.

Software & Systems Developer (part-time) — Strand Leisure / Funfair Casino, Tramore
Jul 2022 – Feb 2025
Designed an in-house NFC points kiosk + live leaderboard (Python/Flask, SQLite, USB NFC, Windows display). Replaced a ~€5k vendor proposal, reduced “points check” queueing, and trained staff. Documented setup, logging and simple admin tools. I also made their website.

• Negotiated pricing, handled DMs, coordinated meet-ups/delivery/returns, and managed basic bookkeeping.

• Outcome: grew negotiation, customer-care, and small-scale logistics muscles.

Affiliate Marketing Project — Personal site
Jan – Apr 2022

• Built a small content site with an item-recommendation feature (cookie-based preferences + simple rules) that routed users to affiliate products.

• Wrote product copy, tracked basic CTR/conversions, and added clear disclosures/compliance notes.
